Following are signs that may indicate a child is at risk:

- Abuse of alcohol and/or drugs.
- Drug or drinking paraphernalia in room or car.
- Suspected drug use- Red eyes, dilated pupils, eye drops, prescriptions missing.
- Changes in appearance, clothing and personal hygiene.
- Changes in friends and refusing to bring friends home.
- Loss of interest in former extra curricular activities and sports.
- Sexually acting out, inappropriateness and promiscuity.
- Depression shown by sustained negative mood, hopelessness and attitude.
- Poor appetite, increased sickness, lack of energy, skipping meals.
- Difficulty sleeping.
- Threats of harm to others or self-harm.
- Talk of or attempted Suicide.
- Self-injury or self-destructive behavior.
- Frequent outbursts of anger.
- Increased conflicts with family members.
- Verbal or physical aggression.
- Threats to run away.
- Refusal to follow the family rules, do chores or obey curfew.
- Truancy, suspension, and failing in School.
- Oppositional defiant behavior.
- Legal problems including stealing, theft, vandalism, destroying car or property.
- Manipulative and deceitful behaviors, Lying, Parental distrust and disapproval.
- Lack of self-esteem.
- Lack of motivation .
